We want to get rid of weeds through digging and plowing?
We want to get rid of weeds through digging and plowing?
An illusion, a foolishness, a madness, a fatal mistake...
Weeds have an enormous vital force, through the programmed mission of Creation to save the soil, maintain soil health, restore the soil, form the soil, feed the trophic life in the soil when it is affected, disturbed, plowed, weeded, cultivated.
Who doesn't know that weeds can break through asphalt, grow on rooftops, through concrete cracks, in the most unexpected places? Who hasn't noticed that where the soil is exposed, either from plowing, erosion, landslides, or soil transport into mounds, weeds of all kinds inevitably sprout?
It is well-known that a weed plant produces many seeds; thousands, tens of thousands, hundreds of thousands. Or, up to a million spores in a single season, like ragweed. What happens to the seeds after the wind, along with harvesting, scatters them everywhere? If they all germinated, and humans stopped being active, the Earth would turn green in just one year. We would be suffocated by weeds growing like in a jungle. For example, poppy fluff produces billions, trillions each year. However, it retains its germination from Creation for only a few days. Other plants and weeds can germinate when extracted from the soil even after decades and centuries! Humans help them hide in arable soil through deep plowing, digging, cultivating, weeding, discing, and harrowing over hundreds of thousands of hectares. And they do this multiple times every year. Whether we want it or not, humans have cultivated and selected weeds through agricultural technologies. Unintentionally, they created favorable conditions for them to grow and multiply.
Have you ever thought why weeds don't grow on lawns? Lawn grass, adapted to be mowed and grazed by animals, does not allow weeds from arable fields to grow on lawns. Only a furrow from a plow, drawn on the green lawn in spring, and by autumn, the furrow soil will be overrun by weeds, such as thistles. And in the virgin forest, you won't see weeds like thistles, burdock, or reed... They don't have the necessary conditions. Remember this moment: When weeds don't have the necessary conditions! This is where we need to start.
So, we have a field overrun by weeds. 10; 20 or 100 hectares. It doesn't matter. Every autumn, we plow to bury the weed seeds under the furrow. I assure you that through plowing, you triggered the germination of weed seeds, moving them from deep within to the surface. It's enough for the seed hidden in the soil to see daylight for less than 0.1 seconds, and it will be ready to sprout. It will sprout sooner or later, regardless of how many years the seed has been hidden in the soil. If it's a lotus seed and has suitable conditions, it will germinate even after 250 years!!!
Who doesn't believe that under the plow, millions of seeds are waiting to sprout, five generations of weeds? Dig up the soil, water it, and expose it to the sun. Experiment. You will be amazed by the rich variety of weeds. Maybe you weren't even born since the seed has been waiting hidden in the soil through plowing for many years. Weeds fulfill their miraculous mission conceived by Creation. Here, we need to find their vulnerable point.
How paradoxical it may sound, but the lion's share in soil formation belongs to plants, and especially weeds. With today's technologies, without weeds, we probably wouldn't have natural fertile soil. Famine would have haunted many regions of the Earth.
We appreciate weeds for their abundant qualities. They don't need fussing, modifying, pollinating, sowing, disinfecting, or treating with chemicals. They are the benchmark of natural life. They don't change their program from the Creator. They work non-stop, like the microorganisms in the soil with which they are always in symbiosis.
So, we have a field with an abundance of weeds. What does the educated agronomist do? Sprays with herbicides. Once, twice, three times until all the greenery of weeds disappears. Satisfied with the "black" soil. He doesn't see that he disturbed and destroyed the trophic life in the soil. Another one plows deep furrows in the hope of burying all the weeds deeper into the soil. In the next year, it starts all over again. Read what was written above. A recurring cycle year after year. Is this the solution? How can we minimize the quantities of weeds and seeds in our fields? Of course, it is possible if we understand why they don't grow in the forest and on lawns. If we aim to create such conditions, we improve the soil. Therefore, planted plants have immunity and are healthy, so we don't need to spray them.
Put the plow in a museum or sell it for scrap. Process the soil no deeper than 5 cm. Incorporate organic matter, even from weeds, in this 5 cm layer. Birds, mice will find weed seeds, their food, above the soil. Don't remove the seeds from below. They will decrease visibly from year to year if you don't plow, if you don't dig, if you mulch thicker. Weeds don't grow through a thick layer of mulch. Those that still manage are weak and easy to pull. Leave the stored seeds in the soil to rot for 300 years. Make the most of rotation, even with weeds, but without letting them seed. Don't change the natural technology, and you will restore the soil to its initial state. Of course, don't forget to maintain life in the soil with the help of effective microorganisms (EM), regularly spraying both the soil and the plants. The fruit and grain will have taste and smell, giving you health through its enzymes and nutrients. We need Mother Nature, unviolated by deep plowing and chemicals, where ecological balance, health, and immunity of plants are preserved, directly affecting our health.
